Developer Summit d1, Updates!

It’s good to see a few other people blogging and talking about what’s happening at the Developer Summit. I thought I would write up about some of the updates from day one at the Developer Summit.

Very Spatial has a nice podcast which showcases the Plenary Session. It’s a nice walkthrough of some of things that were mentioned. The podcast can be found here: http://media.libsyn.com/media/avsp/AVSP_EDS07-Plenary.mp3

I was waiting for James write up and he finally threw something together which talks about some of the things mentioned in more detail. Extra detail is always good.

To add on some of the things we already heard are coming in ArcGISD 9.3. With ArcObjects, there is going to be 64-bit executables with a new compiler. A simplified API and improved installation update and licence management. With the geodatabase there will be support for XML and 64-bit object ID fields. This will be available in ArcSDE and the file geodatabase. I mentioned the newer graphics engine that’s coming; this will provide faster dynamic maps on ArcGIS Server as well.

Steve made a number of posts today as well which talked about some of his sessions and experiences on day one of the Developer Summit. You can have a look at some of them here:

Plenary Session
ArcGIS Engine Application Development (.NET)
ArcGIS Mobile ADF (.NET)
Enterprise Applications With The Geodatabase

Thanks for the great write up’s Steve!

Kirk Kuykendall has also made a post about this day. You can find this here: http://ambergis.wordpress.com/2007/03/21/esri-dev-summit-day-1/

The day ended off with a the Developer Summit dinner. Last year we had it as part of St Patricks day. This year James sums up exactly how it went: http://www.spatiallyadjusted.com/2007/03/20/esri-developer-summit-2007-dinner/ J
