So yesterday I started playing with Microsoft Silverlight and creating some applications to see how it all works. Now since it’s just XML and JavaScript you can basically just use notepad to whip something up quickly. I was wanting something more powerful, so I downloaded the latest version of Microsoft Expression Blend. This is the design tool that helps you create powerful applications in WPF and WPF/e. You need to get Microsoft Expression Blend 2 to build Microsoft Silverlight applications. This is the May preview. A free trial download is available from here: http://www.microsoft.com/Expression/products/download.aspx?key=blend2maypreview.
Once installed you will notice it is very different from most of the interfaces you are used to. The application itself is all built in WPF. Pretty neat! This will get you up and going.
Now to get familiar with things and how they work? I came across a bundle of cool and short tutorials on how to do things in Microsoft Silverlight. You can find these here:
These are videos which are about 5 minutes long and cover the “how to” for each section. Pretty neat! Check them out. I will post more about the Microsoft Silverlight application I am creating later
